Ford will begin producing new electric cars and advanced lithium-ion batteries in 2025

Ford plans to make the largest U.S. investment in electric vehicles in automotive history and, with its partner SK Innovation, plans to invest $11.4 billion and create about 11,000 new jobs at mega-campuses in Tennessee and Kentucky, strengthening local communities and reinforcing Ford’s position as the leading American employer of hourly auto workers.

“This is our moment – our biggest investment ever – to help build a better future for America,” said Jim Farley, Ford president and CEO. “We are moving now to deliver breakthrough electric vehicles for the many rather than the few.

It’s about creating good jobs that support American families, an ultra-efficient, carbon-neutral manufacturing system, and a growing business that delivers value for communities, dealers and shareholders.”

The brand-new $5.6 billion mega-campus in Stanton, Tennessee, called BlueOval City, will create about 6,000 new jobs and change the way cars and batteries are made.

BlueOval City will be a vertically integrated ecosystem for Ford to assemble an expanded lineup of F-Series electric vehicles and will include the BlueOval SK battery plant, key suppliers and recycling. Ford’s new Tennessee assembly plant is designed to be carbon-neutral, with zero landfill waste when fully operational.

In central Kentucky, Ford is working with SK Innovation to build a $5.8 billion dedicated battery manufacturing facility, the BlueOval SK Battery Park, which will create 5,000 jobs.

The twin battery plants at the complex will supply Ford’s North American assembly plants with locally manufactured batteries to power Ford and Lincoln’s next-generation electric vehicles.

Investment in the new battery plants in Tennessee and Kentucky is planned through BlueOval SK, a new joint venture to be created by Ford and SK Innovation, subject to final agreements, regulatory approval and other conditions.
